Sustainability

We're proud to make our garments in the UK including buttons and labels. This is a large part of ATKIN and we want our customers to wear our British made garments with pride.

Fabrics:

We only use deadstock fabric. This comes from unfinished rolls of fabric that have been part-used by another brand. Often they are binned but our supplier, Vega Textiles in North London collects, sorts and re-sells them.

This is more sustainable because we're stopping the part-used rolls going to landfill, but also not creating demand for any new fibres to be grown. It's essentially upcycling a completely new roll of fabric into a completely new garment.

Factories:

Made in the UK is an integral part of ATKIN. Celebrating local makers and supporting the textiles industry in the UK is a non-negotiable.

Our factories are chosen by Tom, our founder after visiting and discussing specialties. Most factories specialise in a certain type of garment, so it was important to choose one that know their stuff when it comes to pockets and hard wearing fabric.

Buttons:

Our buttons are made in the UK from Corzo or "Vegetable Ivory" by Courtney and Co. They made us bespoke buttons and we're proud to support the only button maker in the UK.

Labeling:

The stamp used for the inside pocket of The Pickup Jacket was made in the UK by The English Stamp Company

Our care labels are also made in the UK by Woven Labels UK.

Design:

Vincent Stanley said that 90% of environmental damage is determined at the design stage.

Our garments are designed to be hard wearing with durable fabrics and stitching techniques so failures are unlikely. We expect you to put our garments through the test of every day life so when the do fail, the simple design means they can be easily repaired.

We encourage you to repair the jacket yourself where possible. As soon as you've put time into repairing a garment, you grow more attached to it. We want this because it means the garment is less likely to end up in landfill.
